Stephen Baker

Stephen Baker is the Chief Executive Officer and President of ActiveState, a company focused on secure open source integration. He joined ActiveState on January 16, 2024, succeeding Bart Copeland, who transitioned to a board member role after nearly two decades as CEO.12

Baker has over 25 years of experience in the technology industry, particularly in areas such as Generative AI, Machine Learning, and Enterprise Search. Before his appointment at ActiveState, he served as the Director of Generative AI and Machine Learning at Amazon Web Services (AWS) and held leadership roles at various technology companies, including Fast Search & Transfer and Attivio.13 His expertise lies in commercializing Enterprise SaaS solutions that enhance innovation and productivity while leveraging open-source technologies.

Baker's vision for ActiveState emphasizes balancing productivity with security, especially in light of rising software supply chain attacks. He aims to make open source software both easy and safe for enterprises, fostering a culture of innovation within the company.23 He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Hofstra University and an MBA from the Wharton School.3
