Stacy Amma Osei-Kuffour is an accomplished American playwright, actress, and writer, born on April 18, 1987, in Chicago, Illinois. She is recognized for her significant contributions to television and theater, particularly for her work on Watchmen and PEN15, which have garnered critical acclaim and multiple award nominations.
Early Life and Education
Osei-Kuffour is the daughter of Denise Poindexter, a schoolteacher of Black American descent, and Godwin Osei-Kuffour, a Ghanaian business owner. This diverse cultural background influences her creative work. She attended Homewood-Flossmoor High School before pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drama at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. There, she studied at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting and collaborated with future colleagues Anna Konkle and Maya Erskine, who would later co-create PEN15 with her. Osei-Kuffour also earned a Master’s degree in playwriting from Hunter College, where her one-act play One Course won the Irv Zarkower Award in 2014.13
Career Highlights
After several years attempting to establish herself in New York's theater scene, Osei-Kuffour relocated to Los Angeles to expand her acting and writing career. She has appeared in various productions and written several plays, including Hang Man, which premiered in Chicago in 2018. Her television writing career began with Happy! on Syfy, followed by notable work on PEN15, for which she received an Emmy nomination in 2019 for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series.12
In addition to her Emmy nomination, she was part of an all-female writing team for Amazon's The Power and served as a supervising producer on Apple TV's The Morning Show. Her work on HBO's Watchmen earned her a Writers Guild Award for Best New Series in 2020. Osei-Kuffour has also been involved in upcoming projects such as the Blade film reboot for Marvel.124
