Spencer Henson

Spencer Henson is a prominent academic and researcher affiliated with the Institute of Development Studies (IDS) in the UK, where he holds the position of Professorial Fellow. He is also a Full Professor in the Department of Food, Agricultural and Resource Economics at the University of Guelph in Canada. His academic journey includes a BSc, MSc, and PhD in Food Economics from the University of Reading.

Henson's research primarily focuses on the economics of food safety and quality, as well as nutrition, with a particular emphasis on both developing and industrialized nations. His work spans over 70 countries, with significant research activities in sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, and Canada. He has collaborated with various international organizations, including the World Bank and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), providing insights on food safety regulations and public support for international development initiatives.134

In addition to his research contributions, Henson serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the European Journal of Development Research and is involved in several current research projects aimed at improving nutrition through market-based solutions and understanding public perceptions of international aid.12
