Simon Werrett is a Professor of the History of Science in the Department of Science and Technology Studies at University College London (UCL).24 He is a historian of science with a particular interest in the long-term historical relationships between the arts and sciences.1
Werrett's research focuses on how domestic, artisanal, and industrial skills, techniques, and performances have shaped the development of sciences.1 He has authored several books, including "Fireworks: Pyrotechnic Arts and Sciences in European History" and "Thrifty Science: Making the Most of Materials in the History of Experiment".15
Before joining UCL, Werrett trained in the Department of History and Philosophy of Science at Cambridge University and held postdoctoral fellowships.3 He has been working at UCL since September 2012, initially as a Senior Lecturer and now as a Professor.6
His current research examines the exchanges of skills and techniques of repair, re-use, and recycling between urban, domestic, and industrial sites and early modern scientific laboratories, contributing to the history of recycling and material stewardship.1
