Silvia Alvarez
Silvia Alvarez is the Acting Communications Director for the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA). She was appointed to this role in June 2023, succeeding Chris Dahl who plans to retire at the end of the year.1
Alvarez joined the MLBPA in 2019 as the Associate Director of International and Domestic Communications. She is a seasoned communications professional with experience in media relations, brand management, crisis communications, strategic messaging and positioning.1
Prior to the MLBPA, Alvarez held several leadership roles, including:
- Senior Vice President and Director of Corporate Communications at First Horizon National Corporation2
- Vice President of Marketing and Communications at New York Law School2
- Director of Multicultural & Charitable Communications at Major League Baseball2
- Strategic communications counselor to U.S. Senator Cory A. Booker and New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg1
Alvarez has a BA from Colgate University and a MA from Middlebury College. She is a native Spanish speaker who immigrated to the U.S. from El Salvador as a child during the Salvadoran Civil War and became a U.S. citizen in 2015.1
In her new role, Alvarez will lead the MLBPA's communications team and focus on effectively reaching domestic and international audiences to tell the players' story.1 Her appointment reflects the union's continued commitment to communicating its mission and priorities.
