    Dr. Shyue Ong is an Associate Professor in the Department of NanoEngineering at the University of California, San Diego, with a passion for driving a data-driven future for materials design.

    His extensive research involves the intersection of materials science and information science, focusing on developing innovative materials informatics and machine learning techniques to utilize materials data in designing new energy materials.

    As a Principal Investigator at the Materials Project, Dr. Ong leads an open science initiative providing calculated properties of inorganic materials to researchers worldwide, contributing significantly to the Materials Genome Initiative.

    He teaches courses such as Crystallography of Materials and Quantum Mechanical Modeling of Materials and Nanostructures at UCSD, with plans to introduce a Data Science in Materials Science graduate course.

    Dr. Ong's educational background includes a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from MIT and an M.Eng. in Electrical and Information Science Engineering from the University of Cambridge.
