Neurologist-geneticist leading personalized healthcare efforts in neuroscience

    Sherman Jia, M.D., Ph.D.

Sherman Jia is a board-certified neurologist with expertise in genetics and neuroimmunology. He currently holds the position of Medical Director, Biomarker Development at Genentech.23

Jia previously worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the Broad Institute, where he collaborated with Paul McLaren on a study examining the genetic determinants of HIV control.1 The study found that specific amino acid positions in the HLA protein, which are involved in presenting viral peptides to the immune system, were associated with the ability to control HIV infection.1

More recently, Jia co-authored a manuscript on emerging cerebrospinal fluid biomarkers associated with progressive multiple sclerosis pathobiology, which was published in JAMA Neurology.5
