Shereen Bhan is a distinguished leader in public health, nonprofit organization management, and capacity building, with a strong focus on program development and execution aimed at empowering women and young leaders in developing countries. Currently, she serves as the Program Lead for President Obama’s Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders Initiative (MWF-YALI) at Georgia State University. In this role, Shereen has designed, implemented, and managed an impactful program for 25 Young African Leaders, helping to transform their leadership potential into real-world applications. Georgia State University was recognized as one of 40 American institutions leading this prestigious program in both 2016 and 2017, and one of only 20 universities in 2015. Her contributions not only highlight her commitment to youth empowerment but also establish her as a key player in fostering future leaders globally.
Shereen's passion for public health is reflected in her extensive research, particularly in maternal and child health initiatives. Driven by a desire to create sustainable health outcomes, she recently conducted a significant survey in an unauthorized urban colony in Delhi, India. The aim of this survey was to gather preliminary data on the use of Oral Rehydration Solutions (ORS) and zinc for treating diarrhea, allowing her to identify and address potential obstacles in healthcare practices within the community. This research underscores Shereen's dedication to improving health standards in developing nations, particularly for vulnerable populations.
In her capacity as a finance professional, Shereen brings over a decade of comprehensive experience overseeing multi-million dollar economic technical assistance and training projects across various regions, including Asia, Africa, Eastern Europe, Latin America, and the Caribbean. Clients such as the World Bank, International Monetary Fund (IMF), Foreign Governments, USAID, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have benefitted from her expertise. These projects, which typically span from one to five years, exhibit Shereen’s ability to develop and manage complex initiatives that lead to sustainable economic development.
Moreover, Shereen has ventured into social entrepreneurship, where she has over two years of experience in designing strategic plans and financial models that facilitate the generation of startup capital. Her adeptness in identifying and cultivating relationships with potential investors demonstrates her commitment to fostering innovative solutions to social challenges.
