Shawn Sweeney, M.Ed.

Shawn Sweeney is a dedicated nonprofit professional with a strong commitment to mission-driven communications and marketing for the advancement of wildlife conservation and humane education.

With a diverse educational background including a B.A. in Psychology from the College of Wooster, a Diploma from Elyria Catholic High School, and an M.Ed. in Humane Education from the Institute for Humane Education, Shawn brings a unique perspective to his work.

Shawn's expertise lies in strategic communications planning, integrated marketing, brand management, storytelling, and development with a focus on community engagement through partnerships with media outlets and corporations.

Currently serving as the Associate Vice President of Communications & Policy at The Jane Goodall Institute, Shawn has held various key roles in the organization including Senior Director of Community Engagement, National Director of Youth Outreach and Engagement, and National Manager of Youth Outreach and Engagement.

Prior to his current position, Shawn worked as a Marketing and Community Relations Consultant at Solutions Behavioral Consulting, where he honed his skills in relationship management and strategic marketing.

Shawn has also contributed to Sage Leadership Strategies, LLC as a Web and Online Media Consultant, showcasing his versatility in the realm of communications.

His early career includes positions such as a Program Coordinator for Roots & Shoots, University Programs and Youth Leadership, as well as a Graduate Fellow for Roots & Shoots USA, illustrating his longstanding dedication to environmental education and youth engagement.

Before transitioning to nonprofit work, Shawn gained valuable experience as a Visitor Experience Specialist at the Great Lakes Science Center and as an Intern in the Public Research and Evaluation Program at the Wildlife Conservation Society.

Additionally, his role as a Research Assistant at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo added further depth to his understanding of wildlife conservation and research.
