Shana Dambrot

Shana Nys Dambrot is a prominent art critic, curator, and author based in Downtown Los Angeles. She served as the Arts Editor at LA Weekly from April 2018 until March 2024, where she focused on stories related to the Los Angeles art scene.1 In May 2024, she launched 13ThingsLA, a weekly curated calendar of art exhibitions and cultural events, in collaboration with Hijinx Arts.1

Dambrot has an extensive background in art criticism and has contributed to various notable publications, including the Village Voice, Flaunt, and Artillery. She is also recognized for her book and catalog essays and has curated numerous exhibitions.1 Her educational background includes a degree in Art History from Vassar College, where she studied various aspects of art criticism and conservation.1

In addition to her editorial work, Dambrot is an accomplished author, known for her experimental novella Zen Psychosis, published in 2020. She has received several awards for her contributions to art writing, including the Rabkin Foundation Art Writing Prize and the LA Press Club National Arts & Entertainment Journalism Critic of the Year Award.1
