Sean Carroll

Sean C. Carroll is the President & CEO of Anera (American Near East Refugee Aid) and CEO of Anera Ventures, LLC.16 He is an international development professional with over 30 years of experience working in nearly 70 countries across Africa, Asia, the Americas, Europe, and the Middle East.16

Carroll joined Anera in September 2017.26 Under his leadership, Anera has significantly expanded its humanitarian efforts, nearly doubling the amount of annual assistance over the past five years.6 The organization now provides over $200 million in annual humanitarian and development aid to vulnerable communities in the Middle East.3

Prior to joining Anera, Carroll held several notable positions:

1. Chief of Staff and Chief Operating Officer (COO) at USAID during the Obama-Biden Administration (2010-2012)16
2. Director of Programs for the Club de Madrid (2004-2010)1
3. Executive Committee Member at Creative Associates International6

Carroll has been recognized for his humanitarian work. In 2024, he received the Julia Vadala Taft Outstanding Leadership Award from InterAction for his efforts in supporting the people of Gaza and advocating for greater action in the humanitarian sector.5

Recently, on December 19, 2023, Carroll entered Gaza to meet with Anera's team and assess the organization's emergency relief efforts during the ongoing crisis.4

Carroll is fluent in Spanish, French, and Catalan.1 He currently resides in Washington, DC, where Anera is headquartered.16
