- Lead the Data Security engineering organization, which is comprised of three formerly separate businesses and ten engineering teams with up to 100 individual contributors.
-  Work with product management to translate business direction and market trends into technical vision and execution. Work with finance, marketing, customer success, and other cross-functional teams, representing engineering across the business.
-  Responsible for engineering OpEx and CapEx budgets of $15–20M annually, as well as engineering-related vendor and partner relationships.
-  Managed the divestment of a business unit to a third-party acquirer and handled the integration of an acquisition into our Data Security portfolio.

Voltage Security was an encryption innovator and global leader in point-to-point and data-centric encryption delivered as enterprise and cloud-based software to the world’s largest companies, like J. P. Morgan Chase, AT&T, and The Home Depot. Voltage changed the data protection landscape with innovations like Format-Preserving Encryption. Voltage was acquired by Hewlett–Packard in 2015.

-  Originally hired to manage a single team of server-side developers; grew to lead the majority of the software development team, including the SecureData and SecureMail teams, and the SecureMail Cloud platform.
-  Represented the engineering to our executive staff as well as to cross-functional teams.
-  Took on product management responsibilities for major initiatives for blocks of several months.

Voltage Security

Hired as a hands-on manager to build and lead an engineering team in creating a cloud-based video platform, targeted at enterprise-level clients interested in deeply integrating video into their business processes. Built on AWS, the platform was an early example of a cloud system that automatically scaled to meet demand.

Qualys is a software-as-a-service (SaaS) company in the network vulnerability management space. API-based, programmatic access to data in the platform is a key part of the company's vision. As the engineering manager for the integrations platform, I worked on executing the vision and lead the implementation of that strategy.

I was responsible for the technical design for the web applications in the Merchant Services division at PayPal. I focused on platform architecture, dealing with challenges such as allowing merchants seamless access to all PayPal tools and services. I provided technical leadership to the team that implemented those applications, and was also a hands-on developer on that team.

I was the engineering architect in a multi-year plan to integrate the former VeriSign Payment Services to the rest of PayPal. I also was the engineering team representative responsible for a multi-million dollar data center move (from Mountain View, CA to Denver, CO).

I was the technical lead for a team of engineers in VeriSign's Payment Services group, which formed based on the acquisition of Signio, and VPS became the market leader in merchant payment gateway space. I led several large projects for VPS, including the redesign of all of the web applications to conform to VeriSign's emerging technology standards. Eventually, all of VPS's web applications were ported to the technology we developed, which was based on a Java (J2EE, WebLogic, XSL) framework. These applications were used to manage the transactions for over 100,000 internet merchants processing an average of 1.7 million transactions per day.

Signio was a small internet payment services provider. I replaced the team lead of the web applications team within 2 months of starting in the group and led the team of three other engineers in re-architecting the company's largest web application (Signio Manager). We ported it from a C++-/ISAPI application to a ColdFusion-based application.
