Scott Edmiston

Scott Edmiston is the Research Data Governance and Privacy Director at Stanford University, a position he has held since August 2021. In this role, he serves as a subject matter expert in data governance for research conducted both domestically and internationally. His responsibilities include providing support to stakeholders and faculty in designing, implementing, and adhering to best practices for data management, security, and sharing. He collaborates with various Stanford offices to enhance the university's research and cyber-infrastructure systems.12

Prior to his current role, Edmiston was the Director of Research Privacy and Security Compliance at Harvard Medical School, where he developed and implemented privacy and security best practices for biomedical informatics research. His experience also includes positions such as Data Privacy and Security Manager at Harvard Catalyst and a Privacy Specialist at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.13

Edmiston holds a Juris Doctor (JD) from Northeastern University School of Law and a Bachelor's degree in History and Political Science from Brandeis University.1
