Sarah Messmer

Sarah Messmer is a physician specializing in both internal medicine and pediatrics. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine-Pediatrics at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA, where she worked from June 2014 to June 2018.12
Education and Training
Dr. Messmer received her undergraduate education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Physics from 2004 to 2008.1 She then attended Harvard Medical School, obtaining her MD in Medicine from 2009 to 2014.12
Current Position
After completing her residency, Dr. Messmer returned to Illinois and is now an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC).2 She provides primary care to both adults and children at UI Health, working in both inpatient and outpatient settings.3

She is board-certified in both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, as well as in Addiction Medicine.23 Dr. Messmer is involved in several programs, including:
- Co-Director and Clinical Lead of the Mobile Medications for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) program
- Providing primary care and substance use disorder treatment at a syringe service program in Chicago
Languages and International Experience
In addition to English, Dr. Messmer speaks Spanish and Portuguese.3 She has spent several years working in Guatemala, contributing to her interest in global health.2
