Sarah Barton
Director, Women & Girls' Equality, Clinton Global Initiative
Sarah Barton is the Director of Women & Girls' Equality at the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI), a part of the Clinton Foundation.12 She has a long history with the organization, having first joined the Clinton Foundation as an intern during her junior year of college.1 Barton has spent the majority of her 20-year career with the Clinton Foundation in various roles, including work on U.S. economic recovery, international development, disaster relief, and veterans' initiatives.1
In her current role, which she assumed in October 2023, Barton is dedicated to advocating for women worldwide.13 Her responsibilities are diverse, ranging from developing programs to expand credit access for women in low-income areas to collaborating with the White House on issues affecting women in climate change-impacted regions.1
Outside of her work with the Clinton Foundation, Barton has held several other notable positions:
- Director of Program Development for the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets
- Worked on a global social action campaign for the documentary "He Named Me Malala"
- Served on the presidential campaign teams for Hillary Clinton (2008) and Michael Bloomberg (2020)1
Barton's passion for social justice and civic engagement was inspired by her mother, a single parent and public school teacher.1 She is known for her enthusiasm and self-described "information nerd" tendencies, always eager to learn about the work others are doing in the field of women's empowerment and equality.1
