Sandra Barry is a dedicated individual with a strong background in promoting and honoring the legacy of poet Elizabeth Bishop. With a focus on organizing events and projects, fundraising, and research, Sandra has been deeply involved in numerous initiatives celebrating Bishop's work. She is the co-artistic director of the Elizabeth Bishop Centenary Festival and a co-owner of the Elizabeth Bishop House Artists' Retreat. Furthermore, Sandra is a co-founder and current secretary of the Elizabeth Bishop Society of Nova Scotia and plays an active role in the Advisory Board of the Elizabeth Bishop Society in the United States. With a passion for the life and art of Elizabeth Bishop, Sandra has delivered papers at academic conferences, published essays and articles, and authored multiple books on Bishop. Her dedication extends to curating exhibitions and organizing symposiums focused on Bishop's work. Beyond her involvement in the literary world, Sandra has a background in archival work, having worked at the Nova Scotia Archives, and has extensive experience as a freelance editor, including collaborating with Formac Publishing in Halifax, N.S. As a published poet, Sandra established Joe Heron Press to showcase her work and support charitable causes.
