Sandra Abrevaya
Working to cure ALS.
Sandra Abrevaya is the Co-Founder and CEO of Synapticure Inc., a leader in neurodegenerative virtual care.13 She founded the company in May 2021 to provide transformational support for patients and caregivers through access to specialized neurologists, cutting-edge medical treatments and trials, and personalized, wraparound services.14
Abrevaya's journey into healthcare entrepreneurship began after her husband, Brian Wallach, was diagnosed with ALS in 2017 at the age of 37.13 This personal experience led her to co-found I AM ALS, an advocacy organization, in 2019.4 Their efforts have resulted in over $1 billion in additional federal funding for ALS research.2
Prior to Synapticure, Abrevaya had a diverse career in public service and non-profit leadership:
- Founding CEO of THRIVE CHICAGO NFP (2015-2020)4
- Director of Education Policy for the City of Chicago Mayor's Office (2014-2015)4
- Associate Communications Director at The White House (2011-2012)4
- Press Secretary for the U.S. Department of Education (2009-2011)4
Abrevaya holds a Bachelor's degree in English from the University of Michigan and a Doctor of Law (JD) from Northwestern University School of Law.4
Her work at Synapticure focuses on improving access to treatment for neurodegenerative diseases through telemedicine, helping patients navigate care and treatments that the traditional healthcare system has lagged behind on.2
