Sandeep Nain
Sandeep Nain is the current owner of Ascent Outdoors, a Seattle-based outdoor gear retailer. He acquired the business in April 2019 after its sudden closure.12 Nain is an experienced entrepreneur and outdoor enthusiast who has made significant contributions to the outdoor industry in the Pacific Northwest.
Originally from India, Nain moved to Seattle in 2005 for a tech job.1 He worked for several Seattle tech companies, including Microsoft from 2006 to 2010.3 However, his passion for the outdoors led him to transition from the tech industry to outdoor adventure and retail.
In 2014, Nain founded Miyar Adventures, a mountain guide service that offers trips across the Northwest and around the world, including destinations like Mount Kilimanjaro, Machu Picchu, and Nepal.13 He also opened a gear store in Redmond, Washington, in 2016 to support his guiding venture.2
Nain's acquisition of Ascent Outdoors in 2019 was driven by his desire to maintain the unique culture and local flavor of the shop while also promoting diversity in the climbing and outdoor community.1 He retained most of the shop's knowledgeable staff and aims to continue Ascent Outdoors as a welcoming environment for everyone.1
As an outdoor enthusiast, Nain is an avid rock climber, ice climber, and backcountry skier.2 He has extensive experience climbing and guiding in the Cascades and has summited the region's volcanoes multiple times.2 Nain is also committed to fostering diversity and inclusion within the outdoor community, striving to create a space where people of all backgrounds feel welcome and safe.2
In addition to his business ventures, Nain has been recognized for his contributions to the outdoor community. He received a Life Saving Medal from the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office for a 2012 rescue of a fellow Search and Rescue volunteer.4
