Sam Vesuna

Sam Vesuna is a 4th-year medical student with a passion for psychiatry and neuroscience research.

During their academic journey, Sam has acquired a diverse set of qualifications including a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) from the University of California, Irvine, a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Bioengineering and Biomedical Engineering from Stanford University, and a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) with honors in Biomedical Engineering from Yale University.

Sam has been involved in cutting-edge research, specifically exploring ketamine and altered states of consciousness within neural circuits through optogenetics and optical imaging under the guidance of Karl Deisseroth's lab.

Their academic interests span across neurotechnology, social behavior, and psychiatry, showcasing a multidisciplinary approach towards understanding the complexities of the human brain.

Previously, Sam has actively contributed to various organizations such as being a Ph.D. student at Stanford University, a Medical Student Researcher at UC Irvine, the Founder, and Executive Director of the Yale-Ecuador HIV Clinic Initiative, and a Biomedical Engineering Student Researcher at Yale University.
