Sahlan Momo

Sahlan Momo is a multitalented individual with a diverse background spanning art, education, and cultural conservation.

Over the years, he has delved into various fields, including anthropology, art, sustainability, and intercultural dialogue across different regions worldwide.

Starting his career as an artist in 1966, Sahlan Momo has explored non-mimetic symbolic representations and the creative process within his work.

He has held significant academic positions such as Associate Professor of Painting and Professor of Photography at the Fine Arts Academy in Rome.

His interests later extended to sustainability, cultural heritage preservation, and artistic expressions through bookmaking, leading to the establishment of Semar publishing house in 1986.

Additionally, he founded the international journal Conservation. Culture & Environment in 1989 and served as its Editor-in-Chief until 1999.

Throughout his career, Sahlan Momo has been actively involved in academia, teaching History of Art at University La Sapienza and History of Theatre at the European Institute of Design in Rome.

In 2005, he founded the Spanda Foundation, focusing on sustainability, intercultural dialogue, development, and systemic change.

He is the creator and Editor-in-Chief of Musiké. Int.l Journal of Ethnomusicological Studies and Spanda Journal, both established in the mid-2000s.

His artistic works are celebrated and can be found in various private and institutional collections worldwide, including prestigious institutions like MoMA in New York.

Sahlan Momo has also been actively engaged in advisory roles for academic, research, and scientific institutions, contributing through publications, radio broadcasts, and speeches on art theory, spirituality, and consciousness studies.

His academic journey includes achieving a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and a Master of Arts (MA) from Sapienza Università di Roma, showcasing his dedication to continuous learning and expertise in his field.
