After 3 years as a manager I realized I wanted to dive into technical topics and worked with company leadership to transition to an IC role. I worked in Node, Typescript, and Terraform on topics that reduce operating burden for the team and company. For example, I migrated a self managed datastore to a managed AWS service.

Dashlane

Staff Software Engineer

Dashlane is a password manager for individuals and businesses. The company is backed by Bessemer, Firstmark, and Sequoia. I managed Dashlane's backend team of 30+ engineers and managers distributed across the US and Europe. We were responsible for all of the backend infrastructure and codebases that served millions of Dashlane users. I primarily focused on people management, team growth, and organizational change.

I am most proud of accelerating the professional growth of countless individual contributors and managers on my team. My special powers as a manager are active listening, discovering potential of individuals and teams, mapping interests to opportunities, setting clear objectives, and taking hard decisions when necessary.

Some milestones:
- Started US backend team from scratch
- Grew global backend team from ~12 to 30+
- Introduced global on-call rotation (this was really hard to do globally!)
- Introduced continuous delivery (we were shipping manually before!)
- Introduced paging tooling and application performance monitoring
- Negotiated a discount program with AWS saving $250k+ in cloud expenses
- Maintained 90%+ retention per year during "Great Reshuffle" period and beyond
- Engineers I managed shipped SSO, family plans, audit logs, infra improvements, and much more

VHX (now Vimeo OTT) is an end-to-end technology stack and content management system for online video streaming services. VHX was backed by Union Square Ventures, Lerer Ventures, and Lowercase Capital, and acquired by Vimeo in May 2016.

As one of only a handful of backend engineers at VHX, I had the fortune of developing across a large portion of the application, touching various business functions. I’m very proud of my contributions and here are some of the things I’ve helped do with all my talented teammates: 

- Build our payments system using Stripe’s marketplace API, which receives credit/debit payments from end consumers and makes ACH payouts to our sellers. 
- Build a content management system that is used to upload, organize, and structure video content, and create and manage promotional tools. 
- Build, maintain, and improve an event sourcing system that manages the lifecycle of a customer’s subscriptions. 
- Design, build, and document an API that is used to power iOS, Android, and smart TV devices, as well as used by third party developers. 
- Surface interesting analytics to our content creators through a dashboard that gives insight into the performance of their business and content.

Software Engineer

Work on strategic advisory, buy-side M&A deals, restructuring projects, and various consulting engagements. Conduct research, prepare valuation analyses and models, and write detailed client deliverables. Major projects for billion dollar companies in the life sciences, packaging, consumer goods, and financial services industries.
