Ryan Pontier
Assistant Professor & Director, Center for Multilingual & Multicultural Education at Florida International University
Ryan W. Pontier is an assistant professor of bilingual education and TESOL at Florida International University (FIU).1 He serves as the Director of the Center for Multilingual & Multicultural Education at FIU. Dr. Pontier's research focuses on teachers' instructional practices for multilingual students, teachers' language ideologies, and the intersection of these areas.1
Dr. Pontier has an extensive background in education:
- He holds a PhD in Language and Literacy Learning in Multilingual Settings from the University of Miami.1
- He began his career with Teach For America in Texas, teaching third grade in Spanish at a dual-language elementary school.1
- He has experience as a 2nd and 3rd grade dual language teacher in Florida and Texas.1
In addition to his academic role, Dr. Pontier is actively involved in several professional organizations:
- President of the Florida Association for Bilingual Education (FABE)12
- Past co-chair for the Research and Evaluation Special Interest Group within the National Association for Bilingual Education (NABE)1

Dr. Pontier is currently leading two significant projects:

Principal Investigator for a 5-year $2.5M National Professional Development Grant from the Office of English Language Acquisition in the U.S. Department of Education, focused on creating translanguaging classrooms.1

Co-Principal Investigator for Project Supporting Educators Educating Diverse Students (SEEDS), a 4-year $1.55M grant to support diverse teacher candidates and paraprofessionals.1
His work has been published in several academic journals, including TESOL Quarterly, Bilingual Research Journal, and Language and Education.1
