Ryan Kao

Ryan Kao is currently the Director of Crime Strategies at the San Francisco Police Department.12 He joined the department in 2022 after serving as an Assistant District Attorney for the San Francisco District Attorney's Office.12 As an ADA, he prosecuted a wide range of cases including robbery, burglary, aggravated assault, and homicide.1 Kao is recognized as an expert on firearms and worked with the Crime Gun Intelligence Center.1 He specialized in DUI enforcement and received the MADD Outstanding Prosecutor Award.1

Kao holds a Bachelor of Arts cum laude in Law, Jurisprudence, and Social Thought from Amherst College and a Juris Doctor with a specialization in Public Interest Law and Policy from UCLA School of Law.12 He is a native of Piedmont, CA.1 Kao also serves as the Vice President of the Asian American Prosecutors Association.2
