Ruth Genn
Leadership Fellow at The Heckscher Foundation for Children
Ruth Genn is a prominent education leader currently serving as a Senior Leadership Fellow at The Heckscher Foundation for Children. She has a strong background in education policy and program development, particularly focused on improving literacy outcomes for students with learning disabilities. Genn co-founded the Literacy Academy Collective, a nonprofit dedicated to designing and supporting public schools for students with dyslexia and other reading challenges.12
Genn's career includes significant roles such as the Executive Director of Bottom Line, where she expanded the organization from 125 to over 3,000 students annually, helping them achieve college degrees.12 She also held positions at New Visions for Public Schools, where she led initiatives in data and college readiness, and worked in the Bloomberg administration on integrating after-school services across New York City agencies.2
She holds a Master’s Degree in Public Policy from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Bachelor’s degree in Government from Cornell University. Genn began her career as a public school teacher through Teach for America, which laid the foundation for her commitment to educational equity.23
