Rusty Mitchell

Rusty Mitchell is the Vice President of Design at Mercury Intermedia, a company in Nashville, TN, that specializes in application strategy, design, and development for various platforms including iOS, Android, and connected devices.

With over 20 years of design experience, Rusty has a background as an art director and music packaging designer before transitioning to focus on application design at Mercury.

In his role at Mercury, Rusty leads a team of designers in product strategy and design, actively participates in business planning and direction, and has been instrumental in the success of brands like TED Talks, Panasonic, USA Today, The New York Times, and CNN in the mobile app space.

His work has been recognized with awards from Communication Arts, The Webby Awards, Ad Age, as well as accolades from Apple and Google. Some of the apps he directed and designed have been featured in popular shows like The Daily Show and Futurama.

Rusty Mitchell's educational background includes an MFA in Visual Communication from Virginia Commonwealth University and a BFA in Graphic Design from Austin Peay State University. He has also held positions such as Assistant Professor at Austin Peay State University, Senior Designer at Provident Music Group, and Graduate Assistant at Virginia Commonwealth University.

He has contributed to the design community through interviews for books like Tapworthy by Josh Clark and Designing the iPhone User Experience by Suzanne Ginsburg.
