Roya Ghafele

Roya Ghafele is the Managing Director of OxFirst, a law and economics consultancy that specializes in intellectual property (IP) valuation and competition economics. Under her leadership since 2011, OxFirst has gained recognition for its economic analysis, which aids in determining licensing rates, sales prices, and damage awards, as well as supporting policy formulation in IP law and competition.134

In addition to her role at OxFirst, Dr. Ghafele is a visiting Professor in IP Law at Brunel University and has contributed significantly to academic literature in her field. She has previously held positions as an Assistant Professor at the University of Edinburgh and a Department Lecturer at Oxford University. Notably, she has also worked with the United Nations' World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), advising governments on IP and competition strategies.124

Dr. Ghafele's academic credentials include a Ph.D. awarded the Theodor Koerner Research Prize, and she has been trained at prestigious institutions such as Johns Hopkins University and the Sorbonne. She is multilingual, fluent in German, English, French, and Italian, and has a basic understanding of Persian.14
