• Directly supervised all collaborative clinical programs within the medical School including department financials, chair,
recruitment HR issues, academic, management skills and clinical performance overall.
• Managed the coordination of the clinical practice plan.
• Developed and implemented growth and performance improvement strategies for clinical academic departments
particularly in clinical Programs.
• Assisted the Dean in determining JABSOM’s legislative agenda and approach.
• Served as JABSOM’s representative on the Governor’s Health Care Transformation Task Force.
• Served as JABSOM’s representative in state wide Health IT initiatives by presiding as the President of the Board of
Directors of the Hawaii Health Information Exchange.
• Served as JABSOM’s representative on the Hawaii Pacific Health Systems Task Force to form Clinically Integrated
Physician Hospital Organization (Accountable Care Organization).
• Conducted monthly meetings with Hawaii hospital leaders to build solid relationships and shared programs with the
University of Hawaii Health Sciences
• Served a liaison to the JABSOM Faculty Senate to assure engagement of faculty in JABSOM strategic plan and policy
development.
Team Accomplishments
• Turn around of Faculty Practice from margin of –10% to margin of +8% in two years.
• JABSOM faculty practice actively involved in the newly formed ACO (Hawaii Health Partners).
• JABSOM now directly involved in state efforts at Healthcare Transformation including planning for Patient Centered
Medical Homes, Continuity Care Networks, e HR implementation, CMMI grant and Quality Improvement.

• Chaired the selection committee for the Electronic Health Record.
• Oversaw the implementation of the inpatient e HR and worked closely with OHSU Medical Group to assure full
implementation for both inpatient and outpatient modules development.
• Selected the new CMIO and integrated hospital medical records and informatics into flexible single comprehensive
department of Medical Information.
• Collaboration with SOM research team to include IT elements into the CTSA application.

OHSU

Interim Chief Medical Informatics Officer

• Served as a member of the Dean’s executive team responsible for integrating OHSU Healthcare strategies with School
of Medicine goals, vision and objectives.
• Interfaced OHSU Healthcare with OHSU School of Medicine Cancer Institute, Dotter Institute of Interventional
Radiology, and research efforts on initial CTSA grant.
• Created a supportive environment for medical education within OHSU Healthcare.
• Managed the funding for all clinical faculty leadership positions (medical directorships) and GME within the OHSU
Health System.

Associate Dean for Health System Affairs

• Development of direct line management for nearly one third of all hospital employees in several departments including
pharmacy, radiology, interventional radiology, radiation oncology, laboratory, transplant programs (surgical and OPO),
among others.
• Metrics focused achievement, managed expense and revenue budgets that grew to approximately $200M and $400M
respectively.
• Oversaw coordination of capital planning, proposals, purchasing and installment of equipment in these departments.
• Identified opportunities to provide higher levels of service and access in support of faculty practice and OHSU Healthcare
that resulted in substantial performance and growth in these services over the course of 6 years.

Associate Hospital Administrator

• Served 14 years as the senior physician executive on the leadership team of the OHSU Hospitals and Clinics (later OHSU
Healthcare).
• Played a leadership role in the effort to select and implement the electronic health record system.
• Provided direct support for all medical staff activities including quality reporting, credentialing, meeting accreditation
standards, management of issues involving physicians/faculty within the health system, risk management, safety, GME
funding, external inquiries into OHSU clinical operations or quality.
• Developed, vetted, and implemented health system policy relating to the clinical and physician workforce standards.
• Oversaw all medical directors within the health system, setting annual clinical service goals and evaluation the
performance of medical directors.
• Engaged OHSU in national quality efforts at the University Health System Consortium in order to advance the
developing Quality Agenda.
• Served as a member of the senior OHSU Healthcare Team during very difficult financial and labor relations events,
delivering outstanding care management, communication skills and a 6% margin to support OHSU overall.

• Directed supervised medical students and residents in the Emergency Department.
• Delivered numerous lectures and engagement in small group sessions for medical students and residents.
• Served as the associate program director and then program director for the Emergency Medicine Residency Program for
a total of 7 years during which the program grew from 13 to 21 residents and was fully accredited.
• Established a one-year fellowship for MPH candidates in our Department of Public Health and Preventative Medicine
that provided experience in hospital epidemiology, health outcomes, healthcare management and utilization metrics.

the hospital overall.
