Roseline Orwa is the founder of Rona Foundation and Rona Orphans & Widows Centre, a prominent advocate for widows' rights in Kenya. Her journey as an activist began with a deeply personal experience that transformed her life and mission.1
Background and Personal Experience
In 2008, Roseline's husband was tragically killed during post-election violence in Kenya. As a young widow in her early 30s, she faced the harsh realities of widowhood in her society, including the practice of "sexual cleansing" and severe stigmatization.1 This traumatic experience opened her eyes to the widespread inequalities and social injustices faced by widows in Kenya.
Founding of Rona Foundation
Driven by her personal experiences and a desire to help others, Roseline founded the Rona Foundation in 2008. The organization became officially registered in 2013.1 Initially operating out of Roseline's living room, the foundation has since grown significantly in its reach and impact.
