Co-founder, EPIC-Africa
Rose Maruru is the Co-Founder of EPIC-Africa, a Senegal-based non-profit organization aimed at addressing critical data and capacity gaps in the philanthropic marketplace in Africa. The organization's goal is to support a vibrant philanthropic ecosystem with sustainable African civil society groups at its core. EPIC-Africa, in collaboration with the Rockefeller Foundation, has launched the African CSO Excellence Awards to emphasize the significance of organizational capacity in achieving program impact.
With extensive experience in the non-profit sector, Rose has held various key positions including Director of Operations at TrustAfrica in Senegal, Bids and Proposal Manager at the Population Council in the USA, Advisor at the Coalition for Children's Rights in Yemen, and Program Manager at Save the Children in Egypt, The Gambia, and the USA.
Fluent in English and French, Rose Maruru has a diverse educational background. She holds a Master's degree in Development Planning and Management from the African Institute for Economic Development and Planning, a Post-graduate Diploma in American Studies from Smith College, and a Bachelor of Arts in Government and Literature from the University of Nairobi.
Beyond EPIC-Africa, Rose has also worked with renowned organizations like the African Development Bank (AfDB), Oxfam, and has been an Advisory Board Member at Niyel. She brings a wealth of experience from her roles as an Independent Consultant, Partnership Manager, and Director of Operations, among others.
Rose actively engages in discussions on strengthening African Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and encourages collaboration to build a resilient civil society sector across Africa. With her achievements and contributions, she has demonstrated a commitment to advancing philanthropy and socio-economic development in the African context.
