Ronald Whelan

Ronald Whelan is set to become the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Discovery Health, effective January 1, 2024. He will succeed Dr. Ryan Noach, who is leaving to pursue other opportunities outside the healthcare sector. Whelan has been with Discovery for over 15 years and currently serves as the deputy CEO of Discovery Health. His background includes being a medical doctor and obtaining an MBA, which equips him with both clinical and commercial healthcare expertise.13

Throughout his career at Discovery, Whelan has played a significant role in shaping the company's strategy and operations, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, where he led Discovery Health's response efforts, including the national vaccination project.12 His leadership is expected to continue driving the company's mission of enhancing health and well-being in South Africa.1

In addition to his upcoming role as CEO, Whelan has previously held positions such as Chief Commercial Officer at Discovery Health and has been instrumental in various initiatives aimed at improving healthcare delivery in the country.23
