    Dr. Ronald Cohn has served as President and CEO of The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) in Toronto, Canada, since May 1, 2019.134 He initially joined SickKids in September 2012 as the Chief of the Division of Clinical and Metabolic Genetics, Co-Director of the Centre for Genetic Medicine, and Senior Scientist at the SickKids Research Institute.1234 In April 2013, he became the Inaugural Women’s Auxiliary Chair in Clinical and Metabolic Genetics and also joined the Department of Molecular Genetics at the University of Toronto.34 In 2016, he was appointed Chief of Paediatrics at SickKids and Chair of Paediatrics at the University of Toronto.234

    Dr. Cohn received his medical degree from the University of Essen, Germany, in 1996.136 He then completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.156 Following his fellowship, he became the first combined resident in pediatrics and genetics at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.126 In June 2001, Dr. Cohn joined the faculty of the McKusick-Nathans Institute of Genetic Medicine at Johns Hopkins, where he became the director of the world’s first multidisciplinary center for Hypotonia.126 He remained at Johns Hopkins for over 11 years.6

    Dr. Cohn's research focuses on developing therapeutic avenues for neurogenetic disorders, using genome editing technologies like CRISPR.3 He is interested in Precision Child Health, which aims to leverage technology to analyze genetic, physiological, medical, and social determinants of healthcare to offer individualized care and improve pediatric health outcomes.125
