– Jetpack/androidx libraries (appcompat, architecture components, etc.)
– Real-time physically based 3D renderer (Filament)
– Other Kotlin and UI related projects

I manage a small team working on graphics, UI and Kotlin projects. My team is also responsible for building a cross platform (Android, Linux, macOS and Windows) 3D physically based renderer called Filament: https://github.com/google/filament

Lead, Android real-time 3D/AR and Kotlin

Manager/lead for the Android Graphics team. The team is responsible for the lower layers of the graphics stack including (but not limited to) Vulkan, OpenGL ES, SurfaceFlinger (window compositor) and Hardware Composer.

3D graphics (physically-based rendering), user interface and design tools (Android Studio). My team designed and shipped a new layout for Android called ConstraintLayout as well its support in the Android Studio visual editor. In addition to another unannounced project, I helped improve Android Studio for designers by fixing color management, adding support for Photoshop files (fun format to reverse-engineer), etc.

Landscape photography: my photos have been used as default wallpapers on several Android devices, ChromeOS, ChromeCast, Google.com and Google+, as images in ads for Nexus devices and T-Mobile devices, and as wallpapers in Linux distributions.

Software engineer, tech lead and technical manager on the Android framework team.

I worked on the application framework, the UI toolkit (widgets and layouts) and the rendering system. From 2010 to 2013, I spent most of my time designing and implementing on Android's hardware accelerated rendering pipeline and optimizing/dejanking the Android framework and Android applications.

I helped ship every version of Android from early public releases (pre-Android 1.0) to Android 4.4 (KitKat), installed on over a billion devices.

I gave many public talks about Android at various conferences (including but not limited to Google I/O, Devoxx, AndDevCon.) I have also published numerous technical articles, blog posts and YouTube demos on the official Android blog as well as my personal blog.

I spent a lot of time supporting 3rd party developer through various media: StackOverflow, official Android groups/mailing lists, local user groups, official Android IRC channel, etc…
