Roger Wartell
Professor at Georgia Institute of Technology
Roger Wartell is a prominent academic at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he serves as a Professor in the School of Biological Sciences. His educational background includes a B.S. in Physics from Stevens Institute of Technology (1966) and a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Rochester (1971), where his research focused on the DNA helix-coil transition under the guidance of Elliot Montroll. Following his doctoral studies, Wartell completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and held various academic positions, including Visiting Professor and Visiting Scholar roles at notable institutions.
At Georgia Tech since 1974, Wartell has held significant administrative roles, including Associate Chair of the School of Physics and Chair of the School of Biology. He is also a member of the NASA Astrobiology Institute, where his research primarily investigates protein-RNA interactions and their implications for sRNA regulation in bacteria, as well as RNA assembly in cryogenic environments.123
Wartell's contributions to science are reflected in numerous publications, focusing on RNA dynamics and molecular biology. He has received recognition for his work, including a NIH Career Development Award in 1979.14
