Moxy Monitor

Designed automated nano scale tribology equipment.  Designed a system for heating samples to high temeratures with sufficient mechanical stability for nano scale measurements.

	Optimized the design of a roll to roll vacuum lamination machine for applying dry-film photo-resist.  Developed concepts for resist stripping chemistry filtration equipment.

Machine Design Engineer

Served as the Chief Engineer on a team of about 15 engineers and technicians for the development, design and launch of two medical devices that used near infrared spectroscopy to measure tissue oxygenation.  Assisted in the development and followed a system of design controls appropriate for the quality and regulated nature medical devices.  Experience with the 510 k process and many medical device standards including IEC 60601-1.  Worked directly with marketing to gather requirements from customers.  Managed the outsourcing of industrial design.  Brought in consultants to help solve technical issues.  Performed verification and validation testing.  Primary responsibility was for the optical design of the spectrometer.  Also contributed to the design and problem solving for all aspects of the projects including machined and injection molded parts, circuit boards, firmware, manufacturing processes, measurement equipment.
	Responsible for technology development in the division.  Developed concepts for smaller, lower cost, more powerful, and more accurate spectrometers.  Created roadmaps for development activities and presented them to the management team.  Attended technical conferences and networked with other research groups.  Investigated and managed joint development efforts with other companies for laser, spectrometer, and non-invasive measurement technologies.
	Directly supervised up to 2 engineers.  Served as the company liaison for recruiting at the University of Rochester and University of Arizona.

Senior Development Engineer

Hutchinson Technology Inc Disk Drive Division
	Served as a product design engineer for disk drive suspensions.  Performed extensive Finite Element Analysis in ANSYS and Mechanica to optimize the performance of various suspension designs.
	Advanced the development of a software program that automatically compensated CAD file dimensions for photochemical etching offsets.

Product Design Engineer

Hutchinson Technology In Disk Drive Division
	Designed fully automated equipment for the manufacture of disk drive suspensions.  Designed complex cam actuated indexing systems for handling parts in the machines.  Developed cam design techniques that are still in use in the division.  Designed forming presses.  Designed laser-processing equipment.  Designed the optical systems for two laser measurement probes.   Designed machines that used six-axis robots for material handling.  Managed projects and managed suppliers for equipment build.  Led design teams of up to 8 engineers, designers, and detailers.
