Robert Kovar

Robert Kovar, a renowned Principal Scientist, has a wealth of knowledge and experience in advanced polymeric materials. He is an expert in the synthesis, processing, and application of high-performance thermoplastic and thermoset polymers in the development of new ultralightweight composite structures that boast unique armor properties.

Dr. Kovar has a vast experience in Vacuum-Assisted Resin Transfer Molding (VARTM), injection-molding, filament-winding, resin extrusion/braiding, fiber-spinning, film-extrusion, thermoforming, and reaction-extrusion techniques. His research activities have led to the development of intumescent epoxy and phenolic resin-based composites that are instrumental in the creation of fire barrier structures on Navy ships.

Dr. Kovar holds a B.S. in Chemistry from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn and a Ph.D. in Organometallic Chemistry from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He has an impressive resume with past occupations, including a consultant in advanced polymer materials and processing at Boston Engineering, Infoscitex Corporation, and QinetiQ North America's Technology Solutions Group, amongst others. Additionally, his knowledge and developments have contributed to the enhancement of ballistic penetration resistance, flame-resistance, and acoustic damping in composites.
