Robert Bein
Chairman Emeritus at RBF Consulting
Robert Bein was a prominent civil engineer and the Chairman Emeritus of RBF Consulting, a firm he significantly shaped over nearly five decades. He joined RBF as Chief Engineer and later became President in 1964 and Chief Executive Officer in 1991. Under his leadership, the firm expanded from a small team of 12 employees to a workforce of over 1,100, establishing itself as a leading civil engineering, land planning, and surveying firm in Southern California. RBF Consulting was acquired by Michael Baker Corporation in 2011.23
Bein was a United States Navy veteran, serving in the hydrographic survey unit. He held a Registered Civil Engineer license in 13 states and was a National Past President of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). His contributions extended to various engineering organizations, including the Orange County Business Council and the Southern California Water Coalition, where he was actively involved in discussions regarding water infrastructure issues.124
Throughout his career, Bein was dedicated to promoting civil engineering and educating the public about infrastructure needs. He was instrumental in the creation of both national and local Infrastructure Report Cards during his tenure with ASCE.23 His legacy includes a commitment to community service and the advancement of the engineering profession, which will be remembered by colleagues and peers alike.
