Happy to be back with the NAHL Central Scouting team!
NAHL Central Scouting’s mission is to identify, evaluate, educate, and recruit NAPHL, NA3HL, and other elite prospects to the NAHL.  An NAHL prospect is a student athlete who has the skill, ability, and drive to be a NCAA division I or III player.  

Celebrating its 42nd season in 2017-18, the NAHL, the only USA Hockey-sanctioned Tier II Junior league boasting 23 teams in 12 states from across North America. The NAHL offers junior hockey players the opportunity to develop, learn, train, grow and succeed, while playing for free. 

Central Scouting’s umbrella includes educating players on the path and how the NAHL can help players reach NCAA Division I and III along with their dreams of playing professional hockey, including the National Hockey League. NAHL Central Scouting also assists with the branding of the NAHL.  Our goal is that every player tendered, drafted, or contacted that plays Tier II hockey or lower first choice is the NAHL.

I started a reduced hours schedule in March 2023, supporting the Marriott account. My focus was in developing and executing creative strategies for identifying technical candidates by using proactive sourcing and recruiting techniques including, but not limited to the career site, job boards, social sourcing tools, Boolean searches and other methods.

At the time of my stroke I was sourcing on the Delta and Badgers accounts. In March of 2018 I moved into a SME role to help start the sourcingHUB and to review and recommend technology, training, and process ideas to the PeopleScout sourcing community. I had taken the lead on the SocialTalent training initiative. I worked 1-1 with sourcers on tough to find roles, led SourcingHacks, and much more. 

Before that I supported the BMO Talent Acquisition Team's efforts in recruiting higher performing senior talent for the Technology & Operations division. As a Technical Search Partner, I worked on a pretty cool Digital Acceleration project where we were putting together teams, combining people with different skills and knowledge, to work collaboratively in agile, to accelerate our customer experience as we reimagine banking for the digital age.

Senior Strategic Sourcing Partner

Started as a Scout in 2016 and was promoted in March of 2017 to the Assistant GM role where I am more involved in player recruitment and signing. I am also taking on more of the day-to-day responsibilities of the club including sponsorship, marketing, ticket sales and more. I am still scouting so look for me a rink near you!

The London Lakers are a Junior A hockey team, founded in 2015, and playing out of the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League (GMHL) and aim to develop and promote our players to higher levels.

We play a 42 game regular season, followed by playoffs, and there are a variety of showcase and all-star events, which can add an additional 4-5 games to some players' schedules. We also practice 3x per week so you will see lots of developmental ice time. Our head coach is Jeff Zehr. Jeff played 10 seasons of professional hockey, including time with the NHL's Boston Bruins.

Really excited to be part of the ISS team and the Scouting Mentorship program. The opportunity has given me real world experience to build on my SMWW certification. I attend local games in SouthWestern Ontario scouting Bantam aged players. I also get to Minor Midget and Midget games as well. Tournament, game and player reports are entered into the ISS RinkNet Scouting System and these reports are reviewed by ISS staff members and quality reports will be copied into NHL,CHL and NCAA team programs for them to see.

My approach to recruiting is somewhat different than the norm and has been developed during the 20+ years I have been involved in Talent Acquisition and Talent Management, both in Agency and Corporate environments. I get that there is more to a successful hire than just putting a butt into a seat in the shortest amount of time, as cheaply as possible. I also understand the importance of the candidate experience and the effect it can have on your employment brand. I've been successful in building talented and competitive teams at companies like IBM and BlackBerry following my Performance Based Recruiting process.

I was a Recruiter with OpenText, the leader in Enterprise Information Management (EIM) and Canada’s largest software company. I was a partner to the IT, R&D, PreSales and Value Engineering organizations in the Americas.

They types of roles I recruited for included Software Developer, Pre-Sales, Value Principal, Technical Product Manager, QA, VP, Technical Writer, Solutions Consultant, Director, Architect, Systems Analyst, Portal Developer, Project Manager.

I used various sourcing strategies to look for talent including websearch, x-ray, as well as working inside Linkedin Recruiter (recently obtained my certification). I was fortunate to be able to attend TalentConnect 2013 as it gave me a greater understanding of how to utilize the built in Recruiter analytics to better my results. It also gave insight into job seeker trends and that trend is mobile. I was looking forward to working with the team on optimizing job profiles and messaging for the mobile candidate.

This was my 2nd stint at RIM. It was good to get back to my old team. 

When I initially rejoined I was once again recruiting for the BlackBerry Infrastructure Engineering (BBIE) team and the Global Networks (GCN) team. Shortly after my return I was asked to take on the role of Sourcing Specialist and was very happy to accept. I would be engaged by Recruiters to act as their “in-house agency” and identify and prequalify individuals for tough to find roles.

I was beginning to offer in house sourcing lunch and learns to the recruiters when I was laid off. In addition to my regular sourcing efforts I was a member of the Interview Best Practices team and the lead on our recruitment wiki.

It was great to be back in the healthcare space after being away from it for 7 years. It was like old home week when I joined as I had previously hired and/or worked with a fair number of folks that were now here. I was added to the leadership team to develop and implement recruiting strategies (internal/external) enabling us to identify, engage, and attract higher performing talent to the organization. To this end I took the lead in developing a social media recruiting strategy and developing a presence on LinkedIn, Twitter, and YouTube.

I was sourcing and hiring Java and C++ Software Developers, Oracle Architect, Technical Support, Clinical Analyst, Quality Management System Manager, Implementation Consultant, Finance, Project Managers.

I was only here for a short time but was able to complete some major projects. I've been a big fan of employee referrals as a top source for hires as well as social media and was able to combine the two as I negotiated a deal with Careerify. The goal was to utilize their awesome technology to generate more referrals while at the same time increasing the engagement of the workforce. I had just begun the roll-out when I left.

As part of our branding efforts I produced an introduction to Agfa HealthCare video and created a YouTube channel to assist in recruiting, pre-boarding, and on-boarding activities. I also designed the Canada Career Portal through iCIMS to enhance the candidate application experience. I wrote an article for the 2011 Tech Spotlight.

I was brought into BlackBerry (Research in Motion) by my previous manager at IBM. There was lots of hiring going on when I started but then the first wave of layoffs happened. We lost a large part of our time but I was lucky enough to survive. 

I was supporting the BlackBerry Infrastructure Engineering (BBIE) team, where the focus was on Linux Administration professionals. I was also supporting the Global Networks (GN) team from February to June. During this time I was managing a requisition load of between 85-104.

I worked with hiring teams to establish position profiles and then write postings, develop sourcing strategies, screen and present qualified candidates for their consideration. As in my other roles I coached hiring managers throughout the recruitment lifecycle in areas such as interviewing and selling their opportunities to candidates.

I had the opportunity to work on some interesting projects including the development of a training program for hiring managers on Performance Based Interviewing, creating an internal recruiting wiki site for hiring managers and internal candidates. In addition to being a mentor to junior members I also coached and guided the team on improving their understanding and skills relating to sourcing, social media, and hiring manager engagement. As a result of my effort I was identified as a “Top Performer” within my first 6 months here.

I recruited primarily for technical, consulting and sales roles in software development, technical support, sales, and consulting. I supported a number of different business units including Software Group, Global Business Services, Business Intelligence and Business Analytics Optimization. 

I worked closely with my hiring teams to determine position profiles and from there crafted postings, develop sourcing strategies, screened and presented qualified candidates for consideration. I coached hiring managers throughout the recruitment lifecycle in areas such as interviewing and selling their opportunities to candidates. As a recruiter I was responsible for offer negotiation, presentation, and closing.

I've always been a big believer in continuous learning and I built the business case, received buy-in, and led the project to have all team members trained on the 6 AIRS training modules we selected. I also coached the team through informal mentoring, delivering training presentations on relevant and current recruiting trends and concepts, and working with them on sourcing strategies for hard to fill roles. I was asked to develop and deliver sourcing training including Boolean search techniques, sourcing through Google, resume review and analysis, and an introduction to IBM technology to the IBM Recruiters throughout the UAE, Egypt, and Pakistan. I received numerous IBM THANKS awards and a BRAVO award for my work relating to the AIRS training modules we delivered to the recruitment team

In addition to my recruiting deliverables I was responsible for the research and development of the Social Media Recruitment (SMR) program. Goal of the program was to proactively develop and grow a talent pipeline and to engage individuals in discussions relating to anything IBM.

I started Vennean Logic with the goal of working with companies in SW Ontario on their hiring and talent requirements. Being the owner and sole employee I had to wear many hats (marketing, sales, finance, etc.) and set up the business from scratch.

I provided advice and guidance to companies regarding their recruitment and retention strategies. I did some contract recruiting for a number of clients in the high tech market. I really enjoyed coaching and mentoring individuals looking for new career opportunities and managers in interviewing techniques.

During this time I worked with Express Professional Staffing where I had P&L responsibility for the Kitchener/Waterloo division where I was tasked with developing new business opportunities in recruiting for specialized positions in the high tech market. I was asked to be a member of the International Corporate Professional Staffing development team to share my expertise with other members of the global EPS team. I designed a new website for EPS and I also worked with Communitech on the strategy for a proposed redesign the waterlootechjobs.com website.

This was my first corporate recruiting role. When I joined Cedara (formerly ISG Technologies) they relied on agencies to fill almost all of their roles. I introduced an internet recruiting strategy resulting in overall savings in excess of $200K in the first 18 months while growing the company from 220 to 560. I prepared the business case and received buy-in from the VP, OD and was entrusted with the Project Manager role for the selection and implementation of the ATS (peopleclick) that was integrated into the hiring process.

I established and maintained working relationships with managers at all levels of the organization, working with them to determine their staffing needs, then developing and utilizing numerous sourcing strategies to develop and maintain a qualified pool of candidates. These included employee referrals, building an extensive professional network, job postings (internal/external web), campus recruitment, internet/direct sourcing/cold calling and partnering with a couple of external staffing agencies when required. I developed and enhanced the Careers section of the cedara.com site to market opportunities to potential candidates and developed the on-line job profiles to define the opportunities and to further enhance the Cedara brand. This led to me acting acted as webmaster and content expert for the Human Resources Intranet site, acted as the Project lead on the internet/intranet re-architecture and design and also developed marketing collateral in Flash for the external website.

I began mentoring our other recruiters and specialists, researching recruiting and staffing industry trends and summarizing and presenting findings to senior management, presenting Hiring Best Practices Workshop , assisting with staffing metrics development and analysis, and assisting with content for staffing presentations.
