Rick Klau is the Co-founder and CEO of Onsemble, a startup focused on transforming residential hot water heaters into a network of connected devices known as virtual power plants. This innovative approach aims to help homeowners transition from gas to electric appliances, aligning with efforts for a cleaner energy future. Onsemble recently secured $3 million in seed funding and is set to roll out its services in three Northern California counties.24
Before founding Onsemble in December 2022, Klau served as the Chief Technology Innovation Officer for the State of California, where he was involved in enhancing the state's technology infrastructure. His extensive career includes over 13 years at Google, where he held various roles, including Senior Operating Partner at Google Ventures and Product Manager for significant products like Blogger and YouTube.135
Klau's background also includes leadership positions at FeedBurner and other tech companies, and he has been active on several boards, including Hajoca Corporation, a major distributor of plumbing and HVAC supplies.3 His interest in technology and innovation has roots in his academic background, where he was a co-founder of the Richmond Journal of Law and Technology, the first law review published exclusively online.4
