Rick Harper
Economic Advisor at Triumph Gulf Coast
Rick Harper is an Independent Consultant specializing in community development. He has a strong background in economic development, having served as an Economic Advisor at Triumph Gulf Coast since December 2017. In this role, he advises the Board of Directors on evaluating funding requests and monitoring program performance related to economic recovery efforts in Northwest Florida, particularly following the economic damages from the 2010 BP oil spill.1
Harper has an extensive academic and professional history. He was previously an Associate Professor of Economics at the University of West Florida, where he focused on economic development, macroeconomics, international trade, and public policy until his retirement in December 2017. His educational credentials include a PhD and a Master's degree in Economics from Duke University, as well as a Bachelor's degree in Economics and Spanish from Guilford College.1
In addition to his academic roles, Harper has held various leadership positions at the University of West Florida, including Director of the Center for Research and Economic Opportunity and Executive Director of the Office of Economic Development and Engagement. His work has significantly impacted the economic landscape of Northwest Florida through research and community engagement initiatives.1
