Richard Song

Richard Song is a seasoned professional with over 25 years of experience in finance, operations, and management.

He kickstarted his career in the finance sector, honing his skills in M&A valuation and analytics during his 7-year tenure at Merrill Lynch in New York and Tokyo.

Throughout the years, Richard transitioned into corporate development and operations, working for Siemens AG in New York and Munich from 2001 to 2004, where he facilitated M&A transactions in North America and Asia for Communication and Medical equipment.

In 2004, Richard ventured into Asia to spearhead Siemens' M&A endeavors in the Asia-Pacific region, establishing offices in Hong Kong and Beijing to oversee all M&A projects.

His journey continued to evolve as he assumed the role of CFO at Coupang in 2011, contributing significantly to the company's transformation into the largest retailer in Korea, both online and offline.

In 2020, Richard embarked on a new chapter as a Partner at Altos Ventures, where he is eager to leverage his vast experience to support and guide founders and entrepreneurs in navigating the dynamic business landscape.

Richard Song holds an MBA in Entrepreneurial Management from The Wharton School and a BS in Industrial Engineering from Columbia University.
