Richard Metcalfe
Exercise Physiologist - Researcher in Exercise and Health
Richard Metcalfe is an exercise physiologist with a keen interest in studying the health benefits of exercise, particularly focusing on high-intensity interval training and its impacts on cardiorespiratory fitness, carbohydrate metabolism, and diabetes.
His research efforts encompass basic and applied studies aimed at developing and refining exercise interventions for sedentary or clinical populations, with a dual goal of enhancing key health indicators and addressing obstacles to exercise adherence.
Richard Metcalfe earned a 1st Class Honours degree in Sport and Exercise Science from Heriot-Watt University, a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education Practice from Ulster University, and completed his schooling at Plockton High School.
He currently serves as a Lecturer in Exercise Physiology at Swansea University and has previously held roles as a Lecturer in Exercise and Health at the University of Ulster, a Teaching Fellow in Sport and Exercise Physiology at the University of Bath, and a PhD student at the University of Bath. Additionally, he gained experience as a Sport and Exercise Scientist during an internship at Heriot-Watt University.
