The evaluation involved factory visits and interview of key informants from public and private sectors. Stockholm Textile Water Initiative (STWI) 2014-17 was managed by Stockholm International Water Initiative (SIWI) and funded by Sida covering Bangladesh, India, China, Turkey and Ethiopia. The project targeted textile and readymade garments factories in adopting technologies enabling reduced use / re-use of water in the production process to safeguard drinking water for future and link certified sustainable factories with clothing brands. The evaluation included interventions covering electro-mechanical engineering like:
• treatment of waste water with reduced energy consumption; energy transfer from air-conditioning to heat boilers; 
• use of low-energy lighting systems and saving on energy cost; use of daylight to save on lighting cost; 
• use of: efficient motors i.e. salvo motors  and stored rain water to save on energy cost; 
re-use of final treated water in general washing to save water and energy cost etc.

This Gates Foundation (BMGF)-funded programme works in three cities in southern Bangladesh. As the WASH Business Advisor, responsibilities, among others, included: 
•	Design and implementation of business models for city-wide, environmentally safe sanitation and fecal sludge management (FSM) services in three southern cities in Bangladesh;
•	Support to development of occupational safety and health (OSH) standards of the emptiers and certification thereof including sludge spillage protocol while collecting and transporting sludge; 
•	Promotion of greater private sector participation in sludge collection, transportation and discharge and / or re-use;
•	Revision of fees / charges for FSM services to make city authorities and private sector service providers sustainable in offering FSM services; converting city public toilets as commercially viable entities; introduction of 'sani-tax'  and 'sani-tariff';
•	Support to Behaviour Change Communication (BCC) strategy exercises and campaign development for the local authorities in Khulna, Jhenaidah and Kushtia against target behaviours including: opting for safe desludging, identification and repair of broken water-seals and operation of twin-pit latrines; 
•	Support to development of appropriate water, sanitation and hygiene solutions to urban slums, public places and schools including support to subscription and re-imbursement based services; and
•	Support to design and implementation of online systems for wealth tax, sanitation and municipal services related information processing and reporting in three southern cities: Khulna, the 3rd largest city, Jhenaidah & Kushtia, capturing information on wealth tax paid and septic tanks specification, quantity of services, quality of services delivered, revenue generated and expenses incurred, consumer satisfaction related data and storage of consumer information for facilitating future services delivery.

Worked for Access to Finance component, EU-INSPIRED (Integrated Support for Poverty and Inequality Reduction through Enterprise Development). In Bangladesh, INSPIRED works to develop local SMEs, among other, through capacity building of lending institutions. Here, I:
•	Developed real life study-cases of SMEs for the course participants (i.e. mid-level and senior officials from the commercial banks’ SME-wing) through interviewing concerned SME clients to explore SME financing needs, financial product development, and factors affecting delinquency in the designated sectors (e.g. agro-processing, agro-machinery, leather products and readymade garments);
•	Developed training module and real life cases for facilitating SME banking professionals to develop financial services tailored for SME-clusters around Bangladesh; and

AFE is a US-based NGO specialized in Value Chain interventions. As a subcontractor of groundbreaking M4P themed Swisscontact-KATALYST project in Bangladesh AFE was implementing potatoes, seeds and crafts for exports. Here, in a shorter duration of work, I:
			
•	 Developed a complete non-food value chain report, interviewing all relevant stakeholders of handicrafts and home-furnishings focused on basketry (i.e. made of bamboo and grasses) and JDP (Jute Diversified Products). I also contributed to drafting first policy paper for handicrafts in close association with Banglacraft (sector association of handicrafts) which outlined detailed policy suggestions for this sector;
•	 Developed close working relationships with leading handicrafts exporters like Creation, Sun Trade, Conexpo, Corr-de-Juteworks, and Dhaka Handicrafts to train producers, develop design & market links;
•	 Developed training materials for grassroots producers of handicrafts, developed M&E mechanism to assess training effectiveness both in terms of enhanced skills and increased sales/ exports; and 
•	 Worked closely with a leading potatoes exporter & products supplier, Ejab Group to improve value chain.

PRICE is an $11 mill. local SMEs development program focusing value chain in three designated sectors: aquaculture, horticulture and leather products. At the capacity of business advisor, among others, I:

• Executed business services to local SMEs and facilitated buyer/market linkage to increase sales and
employment, particularly of women & young adults through improvement of sector/ products value chain;
• Worked with food (that includes aquaculture with frozen fish export quality and product development for
local supermarkets and horticulture with market linkage and quality control seeds and good agricultural
practices of fruits and vegetables) and non-food value chains (that includes leather with hide quality
improvement, skill trainings for footwear & design development of leather and mixed jutex-leather goods).
• Initiated first ever public-private-donor assisted placement-linked skill-training program for 3000 rural
women in 2008 which later turned into ’Centre of Excellence for Leather’ or COEL in 2010; and
• Coordinated awareness campaigns (i.e. materials development, road shows, video training and point-ofsale
information dissemination) on proper flaying of animal hides during Qurbani-eve to improve quality.

I contributed in developing curriculum of some other courses in those institutions. The class size ranged from 15 to 40 students. The language of instruction was English. This was a short-term consultant position recruited in Denmark with a visit to Bangladesh. It included:
•	 interview of major players in the local bakery industry, and review of government support services; 
•	 geographic sampling of wholesalers, retailers and consumers in this market, analysis and reporting; and 
•	 business modelling and financial analysis for possible credit from financial institutions.

Marie Stopes International, a UK-based healthcare NGO started offering satellite healthcare services to readymade garments (RMG) factory workers in Dhaka and Chittagong issuing individual ’Health Card’ for receiving weekly medical services. As the ‘Unit Head’ of the factory operations, I: 

•	 Developed factory/client base for Marie Stope to offer satellite healthcare to female factory workers;
•	 Selected field workers and managed them through team-building exercise with doctors & medical assistants. Maintained HR files of the health teams. Minimized costs of satellite health services;
•	 Prepared monthly reports on health card revenue generation activities of each clinics;  
•	 Prepared status report based on survey/FGD of factory workers, management & Marie Stopes team; and
•	 Prepared and executed MOUs between Marie Stopes & concerned garments factories.
