    Remy DeCausemaker is a dedicated Hackademic known for his work in studying and empowering communities of contributors in the Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) Movement.

    He has been involved in various pioneering initiatives within the FOSS Movement, including establishing the first Academic Minor in Free/Open Source Software and Free Culture at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), serving as the first Community Action & Impact Lead for the Fedora Linux distribution, and being the first Open Source Community Manager for a US Presidential Campaign and a National Political Party.

    Remy has a strong background in civic hacking and advocacy for user rights, playing a crucial role in bridging the gap between technology and policy.

    His educational journey includes a Master's degree in Professional Studies focusing on Communications, Media Technologies, and Public Policy, a Bachelor's degree in Applied Arts and Sciences, an Associate's degree in Business, and a certification in Organizational Change & Leadership, all from the Rochester Institute of Technology.

    Throughout his career, Remy has held key positions in renowned organizations such as the Digital Service at Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Spotify, Twitter, Hillary for America, Red Hat, and various roles within the Rochester Institute of Technology's Department of Interactive Games & Media (IGM).

    In addition to his professional roles, Remy has also contributed to educational initiatives as an adjunct professor, mentor at Google Summer of Code, and coordinator for Opensource Cooperative Education.

    He has also been involved in various community-focused projects and activism, including roles at Sugar Labs, CIVX.us, New York Public Interest Research Group (NYPIRG), and Software Freedom Law Center.
