Composer
Reena Esmail is a renowned composer and the founder of A Piece of Sky Music. She is currently the Los Angeles Master Chorale's 2020-2025 Swan Family Artist in Residence and was Seattle Symphony's 2020-21 Composer-in-Residence.12 Esmail has received numerous awards and fellowships from prestigious institutions such as United States Artists, the S&R Foundation, the American Academy of Arts and Letters, and the Kennedy Center.12
As a composer, Esmail's work bridges the gap between Hindustani and Western classical music traditions.6 She has composed various pieces for orchestra, including "Black Iris" and "Blue Room: Concerto For Violin and Orchestra".45
In addition to her composing career, Esmail has been teaching piano privately since 1999 and has instructed various subjects including composition, theory, ear training, and early music history.3
