While at Bluecap I was tasked with both developing new opportunities as well as supporting the partners in conducting research and evaluating deals.

With respect to development, I identified and evaluated an investment opportunity leading to the issuance of a term sheet and identified and recruited an investment partner within my first 30 days.  In addition, I created a network of nine incubators and accelerators to automate deal flow and sourced fourteen new deals.

Further, in supporting the partners, I engaged in extensive market research and analysis including: M&A activity, industry mapping, expert interviews, technology evaluation, and synthesis of important trends across a wide range of industries.  I was also involved in discussions of terms, valuations, and go/no-go investment decisions.

I joined the Texas Venture Labs at its inception and as a result was able to play a role in its early development while also learning a great deal about effective teamwork, entrepreneurship, and venture investing.

Broadly, I led and managed four interdisciplinary teams (business, law, science and engineering) providing consulting services to eight startups over three-month engagements.  My teammates and I engaged in extensive market research and validation in fields ranging from medical devices to digital services platforms.  In addition, I worked with TVL partner companies to prepare and present investment/opportunity analysis packets to interested angel investors yielding over $11M in funding.

I was hired by Xhale following my previous internship with Synogen and was asked to help them with new product development.

Having recently completed a process and product development practicum I 
designed and conducted proof of concept experiments for a chemical monitoring application and device.  This development continued after I was gone and the product was eventually spun out as a separate company.

In addition, to assess a potential application of Xhale's underlying technology, I evaluated the role of nonadherence to oral chemotherapeutics in the development of drug resistance in cancer.  I worked directly with the VP of Business Development and my findings allowed the company to refocus on other areas.

While at Synogen I was tasked with several research projects including: competitive analysis, estimating market growth rates for several medical device product categories, and conducting technical analysis for various technologies.  

My experience at Synogen was transformative in that I became very interested in both technology commercialization as well as in applying my engineering training to rigorously formulate and analyze business problems with a focus on healthcare.  The result of this transformation is evident in my subsequent work history.
