Ragnvald Larsen
Geographer on a spatial mission!
Ragnvald Larsen is a Chief Engineer with the Norwegian Environment Agency, a crucial entity under the Norwegian Ministry of the Environment. His primary responsibilities involve managing environmental data systems, including procurement of external consultant services.
In addition to his domestic duties, Larsen plays a pivotal role in international development cooperation programs, focusing on enhancing environmental data management systems in partner countries. He is recognized for his expertise in national spatial data management and contributions to standardizing sensitivity analysis methods.
Larsen has spearheaded national projects such as wilderness analysis for Norway and Spitsbergen, developing the analysis tools for both regions. He is deeply involved in utilizing remote sensing technologies like satellite and drone imagery, overseeing the Norwegian Environment Agency's 13 drones and serving as the operational and technical lead for drone operations. Furthermore, he represents Norway as the GEO Principal to the Group on Earth Observations.
With a Master's Degree in Geography from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Larsen's educational background complements his extensive professional experience. Beyond his current role, he has held various positions in organizations such as Miljødirektoratet, NTNU, Tanzania Conservation Resource Centre, and more.
