Peter Wolter

Peter Wolter is an Associate Professor in the Department of Natural Resource Ecology and Management at Iowa State University.23 He specializes in forest ecology, landscape ecology, environmental monitoring, satellite remote sensing, and GIS.3 Wolter holds a Ph.D. in Forest Ecology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (2009), an M.S. in Forest Resources from the University of New Hampshire (1990), and a B.S. in Forestry from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (1985).1

His research focuses on using airborne lidar data and satellite-based models to monitor forest biophysical parameters and structural changes.2 Wolter's work includes studying forest fire behavior, insect outbreak dynamics, and the effects of harvesting patterns on landscape structure in the upper Midwest and Canada.3

Prior to his current position, Wolter worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (2009-2011) and as a Research Fellow at the Natural Resources Research Institute (1991-2006).1 He has published numerous peer-reviewed articles on topics such as forest cover change, remote sensing applications in forestry, and estimating forest structural parameters.4
