Peter Lampl

Born in 1947 to a Viennese émigré family, Lampl grew up in Barnsley, Yorkshire, before moving to Surrey. He attended Reigate Grammar School and Cheltenham Grammar School, later studying at Corpus Christi College, Oxford, and the London Business School.56

Before dedicating himself to philanthropy, Lampl had a successful career in business. He worked as a management consultant with The Boston Consulting Group and held executive positions at International Paper. In 1983, he founded the Sutton Company, a private equity firm that contributed to his wealth.5 His philanthropic journey began with the establishment of the Sutton Trust, driven by his desire to improve access to higher education for students from lower-income families.6

Under Lampl's leadership, the Sutton Trust has raised nearly £1 billion and has been instrumental in shaping educational policies in the UK.
