Peter Kirby is an entrepreneur and co-founder of Tred, the UK's first and only green debit card company.12 He attended Rydal Penrhos School from 2004 to 2010, where he was Head Boy, captain of the sailing team, and captain of the 1st XV rugby squad.1 After school, Kirby studied at Durham University, where he met his future business partner, Will Smith.2
Kirby and Smith launched Tred with the aim of helping people understand and reduce their environmental impact through their spending habits.12 The Tred app calculates the carbon footprint of users' purchases and provides tips for more sustainable living.1 In 2021, Tred successfully raised over £1 million through crowdfunding to create the UK's first green credit card.12
Before founding Tred, Kirby worked as a management consultant.2 He and Smith went through 66 business ideas before settling on the concept for Tred, which they launched in 2019.23 Kirby is passionate about tackling climate change and helping individuals and businesses reduce their carbon footprint.34
