Peter Feldman
Commissioner at U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission
Peter A. Feldman is a Commissioner at the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), having been nominated by President Donald J. Trump and confirmed by the Senate in 2018. He began his term on October 5, 2018, and was re-nominated for a subsequent seven-year term that will expire in October 2026.134
Education and Early Career
Feldman was born on May 22, 1982, in Cleveland, Ohio. He graduated cum laude from Colgate University with a B.A. in 2004 and earned his J.D. cum laude from American University’s Washington College of Law in 2010.4 Before joining the CPSC, he served as Senior Counsel to the United States Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation from 2011 to 2018, where he focused on consumer protection, product safety, data security, and privacy issues. He was a key advisor to Senator John Thune, the committee's chairman, and played a significant role in drafting bipartisan legislation, including the Consumer Review Freedom Act and the Child Nicotine Poisoning Prevention Act.124
Role at CPSC
As a Commissioner, Feldman is responsible for overseeing the safety of consumer products and ensuring that they do not pose unreasonable risks to the public. He has emphasized the importance of consumer safety, particularly for vulnerable populations, and has worked on initiatives aimed at improving product safety regulations.34 His background in legislative affairs and consumer protection has positioned him as a significant figure in the ongoing efforts to enhance product safety standards in the U.S..14
Feldman's experience also includes work on high-profile issues such as the USA Gymnastics sexual abuse scandal and the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act, which aims to protect children from drowning hazards.14
